White Masterbatch and what SAPY can offer you.

White masterbatch is used extensively throughout the plastic market, but there is a lot of misleading information out there. For example, it is important to note that not all titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigments are equal. Firstly, TiO2 pigments are manufactured through two methods – rutile chloride process which produces a superior blue tone white pigment, and sulphate process which produces a creamy/yellow tone pigment. SAPY only utilises rutile chloride TiO2 pigment, and furthermore, this pigment is imported from reputable and reliable suppliers along with various supporting documentation for the use of this pigment in masterbatch for food packaging.

In addition, there are a number of critical structural and optical properties that affect the colour and opacity of products made with white masterbatch that are directly related to the type of TiO2 pigment used. These include colour/undertone, particle size, tinting strength, dispersion etc of the TiO2 pigment. The TiO2 pigment used by SAPY exhibits a superior neutral to blue tone with excellent optical reflection of the entire visible light spectrum – the pure white effect you will notice on product trial.

However, it’s not very straightforward process to compare white masterbatch products with simple data.

Based on that, our Colour Lab offers an objective opacity test done on our spectrophotometer as a service for our customers to use as a comparison guide of the effect of different masterbatch usage.
